Trusting God in the Silence
My husband & I recently finished a Bible study group with other couples from our church. It was our first time doing something like this (I know—hard to admit!), but it turned out to be such a blessing. Connecting with others, hearing their stories, & sharing our own was truly meaningful.
In our final session, I opened up about feeling like I’ve hit a spiritual plateau. Lately, I’ve been stuck in my thoughts—struggling with negativity, past wounds, & anxiety about the future. It’s hard to say out loud, but I sometimes wonder if it’s just part of my personality—dim, doubtful, always circling the same fears.
To my relief, others could relate. That alone brought comfort.
I’m desperately trying to find God in all of this—His voice, His presence, anything to remind me that I’m not alone in the fog. Sometimes it feels like silence. But then I open the Word, & I see myself in the cries of David in the Psalms—his anguish, his waiting, his hope. He knew what it was to feel distant from God, yet he kept seeking.
“O Lord, how long will you forget me? Forever? How long will you look the other way? How long must I struggle with anguish in my soul, with sorrow in my heart every day?” - Psalms 13:1–2
That gives me the courage to keep seeking, too. I need to stop dwelling on the “what ifs” & past experiences & instead find comfort in the Word. When we turn to Scripture for comfort & wisdom, it begins to renew our minds & shift our thinking toward hope & positivity.
Also, humbly ask the Holy Spirit to guide your life. Too often, we jump into decisions without seeking God’s direction or asking Him what His best plan is for us.
“But when the Father sends the Advocate as my representative—that is, the Holy Spirit—he will teach you everything and will remind you of everything I have told you.” - John 14:26
God has never abandoned you. He will always answer. It might not be in your timing, but He will show up in His perfect time.
Take time to reflect on what you’re thankful and grateful for. Gratitude shifts our perspective.
“Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus.” - 1 Thessalonians 5:18
I often forget just how many things I have to be thankful for—but when I take a moment to reflect, I realize how much of it is because of God. He is so good. Even the smallest blessings are worth thanking Him for.
As we wrap up, remember this: just because God may seem silent or isn’t revealing the next step right now, it doesn’t mean He’s not working. He is always moving behind the scenes, preparing the way—even when we can’t see it.
In a world that feels increasingly chaotic, it’s easy to worry. But we don’t have to. God is in control. His timing is perfect, His plan is good, & His presence is constant.
Take heart. Keep seeking. Trust that He’s working, even in the waiting.
